Thanks to a last-minute equaliser, Warrington will now be involved with a F A Cup replay this week, so our visit to Cantilever Park on Tuesday night has now been postponed until a later date. Therefore, our next game is the home fixture against F C United. They too will be involved in a cup replay this week so hopefully they are tired while our lads will have had a rest and much needed recovery time to some on the injury list.
Historically F C United are a very new side compared to our 140+ year background. The club was set up in protest to Malcolm Glazer’s takeover of Manchester United as well as disenchantment with changing kick off times for TV, soulless all-seater stadia full of ‘new’ supporters intent to sit back and watch rather than partake in the occasion, heavy handed stewarding and ridiculously priced tickets propping it all up. By May 2005 some supporters had had enough and the campaign to start FC United began. They wanted to maintain the momentum of the protest, to stick together, to sing United songs, to reminisce and bring back the good bits of the good old days. They wanted “Our” Club, “Our” Rules and they formed a member owned democratic, not-for-profit organisation created by Manchester United fans.
That is all history now as on the field the cub rose through the North West Counties leagues, and the Northern Premier leagues. By 2014/15 the new Broadhurst Park was finally completed so they now had a home and secured promotion to the National League North.
We have met F C United before. Season 2011/12 was our first home game following relegation Conference North and we lost 2-0. We did however win the away fixture 2-1. The following season we drew 1-1 at home and lost 3-0 away but we followed that a year later with a 2-1 home win but a 4-0 away defeat in a season of relegation for us. F C United have played another game at Marston Road against Eccleshall who moved the fixture due to the large away following from F C United.
While suffering their first ever relegation last season they are still a well-supported side with home games averaging just over 1500. The same can be said in their away fixtures this season with the home club seeing more than a doubling of their gates. F C United currently lie 16th in the league with a home record of won 1 lost 2 and an away record of 2 draws and a defeat.
We can therefore expect a large following from FC United to hopefully give us a 1000 + gate. But we do not want to be out shouted so fresh from our cup victory get on down to Marston Road and cheer on the lads.

Stafford Rangers are winless in the League in 2019-20 and have failed to score in their last 334 minutes of League football.
On FCUM’s first ever visit to Marston Road in August 2011 Matty Wolfenden scored after 40 seconds.
Goalkeeper Lewis King made 2 appearances for FCUM during the 2015-16 season, conceding 3 goals.
FCUM’s 5 game unbeaten run is their best since a 7 match sequence of 3 wins and 4 draws in National League North in December 2017 to January 2018.

FC United are unbeaten in six matches after drawing 0-0 at Stafford Rangers on Saturday afternoon. The Reds picked up a valuable point on the road during a fairly uneventful encounter at Marston Road in front of 936 supporters. Both sides had chances to win the match but the Reds rarely troubled goalkeeper Lewis King. His counterpart Paddy Wharton made a superb save 15 minutes into the game when Jack Sherratt should have scored from six yards out in what proved to be the best chance of the match. Wharton was outstanding throughout, as was centre-back Curtis Jones. Captain Mike Potts worked tirelessly but United were unable to unlock the home defence and lone-striker Tunde Owolabi didn’t get the service he would have liked. Owolabi had a penalty appeal turned down midway through the first half when he was felled from behind as he tried to latch on to a near post cross. Referee Reece Davies was unmoved but then curiously awarded a goalkick to Rangers. FC United’s best chance fell to Michael Donohue early in the second half when the Reds worked the ball into the box but his effort was blocked. Stafford did beat Wharton once but Alex Harvey curled his dangerous effort wide of the far post with just over 20 minutes to go. The game gradually petered out in the September heat and FC United will be hoping that they have rediscover their shooting boots for the visit of Warrington Town in next Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup.

Inspiration fails to match the effort in the sun! This game served up something that belied the league position of both teams. Both went at it from the offset and continued in that pattern throughout the game. In fact, the only breaks in play were a couple of bookings and a minor melee late in the second half that broke things up. In the first half, most notably, Chris Doyle for FC United and Luke Jones both put headers wide from set pieces, while a four-man Stafford move saw Jack Sherratt denied by the legs of Patrick Warton at point blank range.
United chanced their arm with several long-range free kicks but Lewis King saved them all with great assurance. Mike Potts held United together when Stafford grew dangerous and he stuck at that role for the whole game. The second half followed a similar pattern with both sides probing for a breakthrough, while Stafford seemed to have bit more edge as the game wore on, but clear-cut chances were still rare as defences were commanding. Potts, Regan Linney and Alex Curran all had shots blocked in one attack before Stafford broke and Evan Garnett had his effort blocked, Joe Berks also shot over for Stafford while King saved a long free kick under pressure and Dan Burns nearly snatched it for the hosts at the death. In summary, both sides look defensively solid, but you sense they will both kick on to those upper echelons if they can just find that right striking combination as both sides looked dangerous but lacked that killer edge.

Straight up the other end Jack Lenehan had a floated shot heading into the top corner denied by a Lewis King stop. Despite Rangers looking the most likely for a winner the visitors replied with Michael Donohue’s shot blocked before looping back to Tunde Owolabiu, but his effort flew over. The Boro were putting their bodies on the line and after the break United were denied by three blocks. At the other end Rangers tried to use their pace running on to long ball but were thwarted by the defence. In front of a crowd of 946 the Boro had two chances to win the tie late on but settled for a draw.
