Hello there,

Looking forward to the visit of FC United on Bank Holiday Monday and have been asked to post a bit of info for you and am happy to do so. Hopefully you will find the following information useful ahead of your visit. Be warned these are my personal recommendations so can't guarantee that my fellow City fans will agree but here we go.

AWAY SUPPORTER MATCHDAY INFO

Away fans enter Bootham Crescent through turnstiles 14 to 23 in Grosvenor Road, with visiting supporters housed predominantly in an uncovered terracing which is situated behind one goal. It can hold 1,785 spectators.

There are also an additional 332 covered seats available to away fans in section U of the Popular Stand, immediately to the right of the Grosvenor Road End and running along the side of the pitch.

This fixture will be CASH ONLY on the turnstiles. Fans who want to pay by card must go to the Ticket Office in the car park.

Cash sales are only accepted at the turnstile. Admission costs £14.00 Adults and £10.00 Concessions (Over 65s, YP18-21), £5.00 Under 18s with a £1.00 charge to transfer to the covered seating. Children Under 5 are free of charge.

A programme seller will usually sell our matchday magazine ('The Citizen' - it's amazing, the editor is amazing also) inside the ground at the top of the stairs leading up from the turnstile or outside the turnstiles. Each programme costs £2.50.

There is a food kiosk inside the away section of the ground selling a selection of hot and cold drinks and hot and cold snacks, including burgers, pies and hot dogs.

There is no access to the away end for supporters in wheelchairs. Away supporters in wheelchairs will be able to use the dedicated wheelchair enclosure used by home supporters. Access to this covered enclosure is via turnstile 13, located near the food kiosk just inside the entrance of the car park. Disabled toilet facilities are located just inside turnstile 13.

CAR PARKING

There is no car parking available inside Bootham Crescent and limited on-street parking in the immediate vicinity of the stadium.

A lot of fans make use of our special car park scheme we run with York District Hospital which is next door over the railway line. If you go to this link you can read all about it and find a matchday parking voucher to print off.

GENERAL INFO:

The Club plan to move to a new Community Stadium in time for the start of the 2019/20 season. You will see why we are in desperate need of a new facility when you visit, the place is falling down despite the club's best efforts to maintain the old stadium, originally opened in 1932. Apologies in advance for the poor facilities you will experience, you won't have to experience them on many further occasions with only two season left before we move. For female supporters, going to the lavatory before you enter the ground is strongly recommended.

PUBS/BARS:

At the ground there is the 1922 Bar and this admits away supporters. York City is a friendly club and the only way you can cause offence is to make the mistake of thinking that we are Leeds fans, we most certainly are not and anyone who suggests such a thing will be arrested and shot.

Across the road from the gates is Burton Lane Working Men's Club, cheap and cheerful if a bit grotty. You get charged a pound to go in but probably make the money back in cheap drinks. Very much a darts and doms kind of place, think Droylsden.

If you are coming by train, the York Tap and the Maltings are two popular destinations. I would also recommend a trip down Goodramgate to visit the Old White Swan, Snickleway, Cross Keys and Golden Slipper. These are a stone's throw from York Minster.

Nearer the ground you have the Minster Inn (the best one in York), White Horse, Bootham Tavern and Exhibition. The Tavern has had a refurb so isn't bad now, the White Horse is a bit grim and the Exhibition over-priced.

A bit further, under Bootham Bar, is the Lamb & Lion (take out a mortgage if you are a lager drinker but great beer garden), Eagle & Child, Hole in the Wall, Three Legged Mare and York Arms. If you have a rubbish day out drinking in York then you need to take a look at your life and examine what it's all about. You simply cannot go wrong, there are hundreds of pubs and restaurants.

There is a chippy around the corner from the ground down Burton Stone Lane, as well as a Sainsbury's (for cashpoint), a Heron Food (yes, I know), a Pizza place, a Chinese (a food and a race of people) plus various other shops.

York City were a League club between 1929 and 2004 and 2012 to 2016. In 1974-75 they competed with Manchester United in Division 2, holding a place of 5th in October. They lost 0-1 to the Reds at Bootham Crescent in December 1974 to a Stuart Pearson goal. In October 1995 they against met United, this time in the League Cup 2nd Round, losing 1-3 at home to goals from Paul Scholes (2) and Terry Cooke, but won 4-3 on aggregate.
Former FCUM keeper Nick Culkin joined United from the Minstermen for £100,000 in September 1995 whilst still a York City youth player. Culkin made 1 competitive appearance for United and 3 for FCUM.
Manager Gary Mills won the European Cup with Nottingham Forest in 1980 when they won 1-0 against SV Hamburg in Madrid, becoming the youngest player in a European Cup Final.
Keeper Jon Worsnop made 36 appearances for the Reds between 2012-13.
Midfielder Theo Wharton has won 3 international caps for St Kitts & Nevis.
York’s current home attendance average of 3108 is the highest in National League North.

They weren't that bad - I've used a lot worse!
