Southport’s origins date back to 1881 and they moved to Haig Avenue in 1905, known then as Southport Central. They joined the Football League as Southport in 1921 and finally lost their status in 1978, being replaced by Wigan Athletic.
Scott Kay made 43 League appearances for Southport between 2012-14. Joel Logan made 4 appearances for Southport in 2014. Nathan Lowe scored 9 goals in 42 appearances for FCUM between 2016-17.
Jason Gilchrist scored 29 goals in 62 games for FCUM between 2016-17. Against Tamworth in November 2017 he became the first ever player to score a hat trick for Southport on his League debut. Gilchrist won the Divisional Golden Boot with 26 goals in 2017-18.
Southport had a player sent off in 3 successive games in the month of August.
Dave Carnell’s last appearance for FCUM was in a 2-2 draw at home to Stalybridge Celtic in April 2017.
