Match reportFC United fight back to draw eight goal thriller
Last gasp FC United fought back from 3-0 down at half-time to snatch an astonishing 4-4 draw at Boston United with two late goals from substitute Gerard Garner and Craig Lindfield.

A haphazard first half performance saw the Reds go three goals down inside half an hour and the game looked to be gone. But if the last 13 years have taught us anything it’s that FC United never accept defeat and always fight to the end.

Man-of-the-match Lindfield led the fightback and scored the Reds’ first goal in six league games just seven minutes after the break. Substitute Jeff King halved the deficit on 71 minutes but Ashley Hemmings made it 4-2 just two minutes later.

Garner came off the bench for Daniel Racchi with eight minutes to go and with 88th minutes on the clock he had scored the visitors’ third. United were flying and Boston were reeling.

Considering the Reds had gone six weeks without scoring goal in the league, it was strange that it felt almost inevitable that they would get the priceless fourth at the death, such was their dominance in the closing stages.

Half-time substitute Jamal Crawford was driving United on and he helped to get the Reds an injury time corner, which was whipped into the six yard box for Lindfield to flick home at the near post, sparking wild celebrations behind the goal.

After the match, player-manager Tom Greaves told FCUM Radio: "It was difficult conditions for us, we were a couple of goals down but we didn’t stop believing, we kept going and got our reward.

"I told the lads at half-time we needed a reaction for the second-half and that is what they have given me. When you are on a run like this you just need to show that spirit to grab something out of nothing we did just that."

Now Greaves is calling on his players to repeat the performance for the rest of the season. He said: "We showed what we can do, we have gained a lot from this and now have to push forward with it."

Full report not expected to follow.
