How to make friends at Edgeley Park

Post by Nick Duckett »

A Gainsborough fan’s experience - from their programme: ‘For £4 we can park, for £15 we get access to the ground. This could be a great place to watch football. Our experience is different as we are corralled in, kept apart from the home support in one corner, directors and secretary included. A steel pillar partially blocks our views. But we are well stewarded, if not stewarded well. There are tensions tonight, a bag search going in and a young fan ‘asked’ to leave. On a Saturday there is a chip and burger van. Tonight there is no van. By the time we get to the front of the queue at the tea hut, the pies and badly mashed potatoes are sold out. The choices are hot dogs or burgers. We leave it. We decide on £2 coffee.’

Says it all really. Our away end is not perfect but we try to welcome fans as best as we can. Often look at it with a degree of sadness nowadays as it looks cold without the flags and bar scarf etc. The reason for no flags ? Stockport 'fans' delighting in ripping then down and attempting to further damage them once down.
When away fans are allowed and want to mix it makes for a great atmosphere. Let's hope we can find some pocket of money sometime soon to do up the away end and improve the day for home and away fans.

Look we asked for them to be took down just for the match as it'll only cause trouble good thing we won't have flags in the away end so mindless idiots don't rip them down lol and we get a decent atmosphere can't wait till Saturday :D

It was a mistake putting our flags in the away end. I'm sure our nutters would do the same if Stockport do it for tomorrow. It would be interesting to know how welcome Stockport fans feel when they come to Broadhurst.

Stockport is not the best place ever to live, but I'm proud that I came from there.
