This is the first meeting between the clubs.
Basford manager Steve Chettle made 415 League appearances for Nottingham Forest, winning the League Cup in 1989 and 1990.
Saturday’s 7-0 win against Buxton was the first FCUM victory by a seven goal margin in League football since Nelson lost 8-0 at Victoria Park in April 2007.
The last player before Tunde Owolabi to score 4 goals for FCUM in a League fixture was Rory Patterson against Bridlington Town in August 2007. Owolabi is now leading scorer in the division with 8 goals.

FC United fell to a 3-1 defeat in their first ever meeting with second placed Basford United, the turning point being a freak second half goal on Tuesday night at Broadhurst Park.

The Reds took the lead on eight minutes when the league’s top goal scorer, Tunde Owolabi cut in from the left wing and curled a superb shot past Kieron Preston for 1-0. Owolabi’s ninth goal in 12 appearances and his fifth goal in four days.

The visitors were looking dangerous but the FC United defence held firm, though Courey Grantham should have equalised – firing over when well placed. On 23 minutes, a good FC saw a cross from the left evaded everyone when just a tap in would have done the trick. Four minutes later, Basford were on level terms when a corner wasn’t cleared and a cross from the right was headed in by Kane Richards to make it 1-1.

Just past the hour mark, the away side should have taken the lead when Grantham fired over. The resultant goal-kick found its way to Stefan Galindki, who’s headed clearance from inside his own half sailed over the head of loanee goalkeeper Cameron Belford and roll, seemingly in slow motion, into the empty net.

From this point, FC United piled on the pressure but couldn’t break the resolute Basford defence. Right on fulltime, Grantham found himself clean through on the FC goal, he rounded Belford and rolled the ball home to make amends for his earlier misses.

In the end, the game turned on a moment of bad luck and arguably poor judgement for FC United, who, up until that point, had looked good enough for a share of the spoils. The result means the Reds drop one place to 10th in the table before our trip to Atherton Collieries on Saturday.

Basford United came from a goal down to win 3-1 away to FC United of Manchester.
The hosts took an early lead through Tunde Owolabi but it was level at the break thanks to Kane Richards.

Stef Galinski headed the visitors ahead from his own half. His clearance bouncing over the FC United ‘keeper Cameron Belford and finding the bottom corner.

It was 3-1 in the 91st minute when Courey Grantham rounded Belford and put the ball into an empty net.

There were no changes in the Basford line up that drew 1-1 away to Morpeth Town in their last game.

After Basford had two early chances to take the lead through Richards and Liam Bateman they fell behind in just the eighth minute. Owolabi cut inside before firing the ball low past Kieran Preston and into the bottom corner.

Grantham had a great chance to get his side level just before the quarter of the hour mark. Richards and Bateman combined well down the right and the former squared for Grantham but he could not keep his effort from six yards down.

FC United then went close to a second before Basford were level. Adam Dodd rolled the ball across the six-yard box, fortunately for Basford there was no there to tap it home.
And up the other end they found an equaliser. A corner came through to Kane Richards and he powered a header past Cameron Belford and into the back of the net.

Nat Watson then had a chance but his effort was blocked in what was the last real action of the half as the two sides went in level at the break.

The hosts had it all their own way at the start of the second but it was Basford who went head. After Grantham fired over the bar, Galinski’s defensive clearance, from inside his own half went all the way through and bounced over Belford and into the net.

The hosts continued to pile on the pressure and had several chances blocked before a header was powered straight at Preston. Preston then did well to block Dodd’s driven ball at the near post. But again, it was Basford who had the better chance. The ball broke for Richards and his low effort beat Belford but went just wide of the post.

FC United continued in their search for an equaliser and threw ten men forward in the hopes of getting one but that allowed Basford to get their third. Grantham was played in on goal by Richards and with the freedom on the FC United half he rounded Belford and put the ball into an empty net to round off the win.
